The NanOp Competence Center will have efficient management structures that secure optimum conditions for scientific cooperation and exchangeof knowledge, as well as for fast and efficient transfer of results to industry and eventually products to the global market, leading to clearly measurable economic growth. Interdisciplinary cooperation between electrical engineering and semiconductor materials and device research groups will be linked to manufacturing, marketing, product development and creation of new investments and jobs, and thus economic wealth.The main bodies of the organization are:
Steering Committee (SC)
Chairman: em. Prof. Walter Heywang
The SC will unite national and international experts who continuously accompany the Center's work by consultation on main scientific and application issues, identifying main working areas and key topics. The steering committee will also take a role in reviewing the progress oft he overall work and recommend general guidelines to the ManagementCommittee.Management Committee (MC)
Members of MC:The MC will consist of four members representing the participating companies, research centers and university groups. Its chairman will be appointed on biannual terms. The MC is responsible for the planning and execution of central functions of the Consortium, mainly:

- Dr. K. Schulz (Merge Optics GmbH)

Network Coordinator (CO)
- proposals for nano-optoelectronics related R&D programs and projects
- exchange of information, special technical reports etc., and prototype components for laboratory experiments
- interaction with external groups and other networks
- establishment of an experts' data base
- exchange of human resources, organization of joint work by groups
- workshops and technical exhibitions
- consulting to political and other public institutions
- transfer of results to and interaction with potential manufacturers, stimulation of entrepreneurial spin-offs and cooperation with high-technology companies
- promotion of standardization
- dissemination of results to the scientific community and the applying industries, role of an information channel to external groups and partners, public relations
- educational programs for Ph.D. and undergraduate students, in particular vocational training programs for technicians and apprentices of the industrial link type
- creation of cooperation structures for activities beyondthe period of funding (i.e. after the end of five years)

The CO assists the MC and executes the activities described above and provides all necessary infrastructure for it.
