Osram Opto Semiconductor was founded in January 1999 as a joint venture of Osram AG and the former semiconductor branch of Siemens AG. In April 1999 the latter one has been transformed into Infineon Technologies AG. 51 % of Osram Opto Semiconductor is owned by Osram AG while the other 49 % are held by Infineon Technologies. In the new company Osram's competence in lighting applications is joined with Infineon's competence in semiconductors. This combination will provide an excellent basis for the competition in the rapidly growing field of opto-semiconductor devicex for ligthing purposes.

Today Osram Opto Semiconductor works on:

• Light emittind diodes (LEDs)

which are mainly for lighting purposes (e. g. automitve), industrial applications and consumer applications,
• Infrared detectors and emitters

used in remote controls, photometry, sensor and measurement apllications,
• Displays

for large area projections and for telecommunication applications,
• High power semiconductor Lasers

for laser pumping, material processing, sensor applications and laser TV.

Whithin the NanOp competence centre Osram Opto Semiconductor will provide its knowledge in industrial processing and device fabrication.
