Innovative Optoelectronic Components was founded by Andreas Umbach, Günter
Unterbörsch, and Dirk Trommer as a spin-off company of the Heinrich-Hertz-Institut
für Nachrichtentechnik Berlin GmbH, the "Center of Excellence for Indium
Phosphide Technology" in Germany, at the beginning of 1998. The three scientists
are recognized experts in the field of indium phosphide (InP)-based optoelectronic
devices, especially on photonic integrated photoreceivers. In 1997 they realized
an increasing commercial interest in the devices resulting from their research
at HHI.
The intention of the company is to manufacture and commercialize state-of-the-art
opto-electronic components as a direct transfer from the research labs to the
market place in order to support R&D-engineers working on fibre-optic communication
systems and networks. As first products ultrafast waveguide-integrated photodetector
chips and modules have been offered. As a next step the product spectrum will
be extended to offer integrated photoreceivers additionally comprising HEMT-based
amplifiers.
